Description

PHOSGUARD STANDARD is the foundational potassium phosphite in the range, a concentrated liquid built to deliver systemic defence support and a working potassium load in a single pass. It combines a high phosphite content with potassium, so the crop gains both the plant-health activity of the phosphonate ion and the sizing and filling benefits that potassium brings late in the season. The systemic phosphite is taken up and redistributed throughout the plant, while the potassium supports sugar movement and water regulation as fruit and grain develop. It is an all-round grade for foliar spray and fertigation programmes across vines, fruit, vegetables, and field crops.

Key Benefits

  • Activates the plant’s natural defences. Phosphite primes the synthesis of phytoalexins and phenolic compounds and the reinforcement of cell walls, so the crop meets pathogen pressure with its own strengthened responses.
  • Builds resilience to oomycete pressure. At working concentrations the phosphite is directly unfavourable to organisms such as Phytophthora and the downy mildews, adding a second line of protection alongside induced defence.
  • Reaches the whole plant systemically. Taken up and translocated in both xylem and phloem, it protects roots, new shoots, and tissues a spray never directly wets.
  • Supports fruit sizing and grain filling. The potassium load drives sugar translocation and water regulation, helping crops size, fill, and finish through the later growth stages.

How It Works

PHOSGUARD STANDARD delivers phosphite, the phosphonate ion, which crops absorb quickly and move systemically through both xylem and phloem after a foliar spray or fertigation application. Inside the plant, phosphite acts in two complementary ways that depend on concentration. At higher local concentrations it is directly unfavourable to oomycete organisms such as Phytophthora, Pythium, and the downy mildews, slowing their growth and energy metabolism. At lower concentrations it primes the crop’s own defence system, triggering the synthesis of phytoalexins and other phenolic compounds, reinforcing cell walls with lignin and suberin, and raising the activity of defence-related enzymes. Because it is fully systemic, the protection reaches new growth and tissues the spray never directly contacted.

The potassium in this grade plays a separate, nutritional role. As a mobile osmotic cation, potassium drives sugar translocation and water regulation, which support fruit sizing, grain filling, and overall quality in the later stages of the crop. Pairing systemic defence support with a potassium load lets one pass through the sprayer or fertigation line work on both crop health and finish.

When to Use PHOSGUARD STANDARD

PHOSGUARD STANDARD fits across the season wherever systemic defence support and a potassium contribution are both useful.

  • Apply PHOSGUARD STANDARD preventively through periods of active growth, when oomycete pressure typically builds.
  • Use PHOSGUARD STANDARD across fruit sizing and grain filling to combine defence support with potassium nutrition.
  • Include PHOSGUARD STANDARD in routine foliar or fertigation programmes on vines, fruit, vegetables, and field crops.

Plants mount their strongest defences when they are healthy and unstressed; when a crop is under pressure those responses slow, which is exactly when systemic support earns its place. Applying ahead of and through high-pressure periods keeps the crop’s defences primed when it cannot fully prime them on its own.
